Snow-removal operations:
temporary parking restrictions

Different types of signage are used to indicate parking restrictions for street snow-clearing and snow-removal operations. These temporary signs take priority over
permanent signage although not cancelling the latter if it is more restrictive.
Removable signs, generally orange, are set up alongside existing signage; or |
Sandwich boards are placed on snowbanks; or |
Biodegradable signs made of cardboard attached to short rods are stuck in snowbanks. |
In some sectors, special signage is put in place to facilitate clearing narrow streets. |
This is a permanent sign installed at the start of each stretch of narrow street. It is a
reminder that, during snow-clearing periods, it is prohibited to park a vehicle on the right
side of the street.
When the weather forecast predicts a snowfall of 15 cm and more, or when snow
accumulation on the ground warrants it, this sign is affixed to existing signage, but only
on the right side of the street. It signifies that parking is prohibited at all times, so as to
ensure passage for emergency vehicles.
At the same time, this sign is installed on the left side of narrow streets, to enable holders
of “Rue étroite” (narrow street) stickers to park their vehicle there (in zones identified for
this purpose) between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. |
All information on the “Rue étroite” stickers can be obtained by clicking on the word “Stickers”.
Later, to enable passage of snow-clearing vehicles on the left side of narrow streets,
parking is temporarily prohibited there; one of these two signs is then installed on the left
side of the street. |
During these operations, off-street parking lots (rented by Ville de Montréal) are made
available during the evening and the night (according to the schedule determined by the owners) to residents with a “Rue étroite” sticker.
This sign is installed at the entrance to off-street parking lots.
This sign indicates parking spaces reserved for vehicles with a “Rue étroite” sticker.
